Moose on Peck Lake Algonquin Park

Our Guests from January wrote the following:
We were on the Peck Lake trail at dusk and it was a big mother and her young (but still big) bull son (I think).

It was really fascinating to watch the moose crossing the lake in the middle of the wilderness, in the silence of winter. They were clearly aware that they were on thin ice. At one point, on leg went through the ice but the moose calmly took it out and walked away without panicking. We're used to seeing animals by the side of the road in Algonquin, or near the cottage, but this was quite special. I think we got some pictures.

Cooper Lake - Wolf Sighting

This image was captured today by our neighbour Joe,of a wolf slowly walking across our lake from the island to the shore. This is a very rare moment as these creatures are usually only seen back country and in packs. This lone wolf will head back into the forest and join his family.

Crystal Clear Night Skies

Here in Muskoka we have been enjoying cool sunny days and crystal clear night skies. To really see the sky we walk down to the dock where we can get a wider view and then see what unfolds. Often we have questions and lately we have gotten an answer. What is that in the sky moving across so quickly click here for the answer. Put in the name of your city and see what we are seeing and be sure to turn your lights off at night, it saves the earth and helps us all enjoy the night sky.

Redheaded Woody in the snow

Woody Woodpecker visits us on a very snowy day in December. He is one of many birds that come and go during the winter months. We welcome the sight several kinds of woodpeckers including the Piliated Woodpecker who is the noisiest and brightest of all.

Majestic Buck at our Bird Feeder

A snowy December morning and we woke up to this beautiful animal strolling through our woods to visit the birds. We sometimes see Does and young deer but this is our first 8 point visitor.

We have Snow

WE HAVE SNOW.
Everyone has been out skiing and tobogganing already and the forest is heavy with the weight of all this snow.
